Biking in Bejing

September 2nd, 2007
.

Beijing is the perfect city for biking - practically flat with bike lanes everywhere, so I decided to hire a bike and go for a ride. Once again, putting my viewer’s needs in front of my personal safety, I made a video, so you guys don’t feel like you’re missing out.

It’s worth noting that the original video was longer, but in efforts to fight copyright infringement, YouTube has limited videos to 10 minutes - which apparently is apparently enough, given the quantization of our generation. I tell you, YouTube totally cramps my artistic vision! I still have the “uncut” version, with extended scenes and bonus footage - maybe it will be on the DVD release.

Nice video. But you are mad! :)

Dude, firstly - great effort, I think the cycling around while videotaping strikes a happy balance between walking being to slow to show a big picture, and driving in a car being too fast and seperated from the environment!

Secondly - What, are you crazy?!? Can you say crazy dangerous! Almost as bad as riding a 600cc sports motorcycle…

Thirdly - I had a look at your YouTube page for this clip - haaha someone had left one of those typically judgemental comments behind about your video…

Keep up the good work. You are giving me heaps of ideas for my own OE blogging…

Nice theme music at the end ;)

Great tour - when the camera was wobbling I thought that you were soon to crash.
Like to see all the trees but it appears these like many cities are only in the old historic and rich areas. Good job in evading the ….. cannot mention or the chinese electronic …… harming HRs may get you next time

I feel sorry for the pedestrians!

Oh oh oh, I’m part Chinese!

And, I would’ve done what you did for the video. Except maybe do some stunt tricks at the end with the bike, and crash into some people.
Hmm weird. I’ve always pictured China with lots of people and very crowded and mayhem-ish. Ehh, who knew?
    The bike lane is HUGE.
I had to bike to school for a few weeks and the lane is so tiny. I almost ran into a car, turning a corner.

Yeah, it was a road bike, so tricks would have been a little… tricky.
But did you read the bike in the other post about me jumping the curb?
And didn’t you see the bit where I almost crash into a group of people?

I didn’t find China as crowded as I thought either… but I was only there for 2 weeks.
